Welcome to the Sample Unit Progressions for Pre-Kindergarten.


The sample unit progressions and corresponding resources were developed and identified by Oklahoma teachers to support instruction aligned to the Oklahoma Academic Standards for Social Studies. The sample unit progressions and corresponding resources are designed to support schools and teachers as they plan instruction and classroom assessments aligned to Oklahoma Academic Standards for Social Studies. Resources provided are for optional use.

Unit 1. Citizenship  

Suggested Instructional Time: 
Standards are integrated throughout the curriculum and the year; however, focus on a particular standard (strand) per 9 weeks is also appropriate.

Supporting Questions:

  •  How do rules keep us safe?        

  • What does it mean to be a good citizen? 

  • What are rules?

  • How do differences make people special?

  • How can we learn together?

  • How do I make friends? 

Unit 2. Geography   

Suggested Instructional Time: 
Standards are integrated throughout the curriculum and the year; however, focus on a particular standard (strand) per 9 weeks is also appropriate.

  •      Where am I in the world?    

  • How can we learn about the world around us?

  • What is a community? 

  • What is a map?

  • How can a map help us?

  • Who is a part of a community?

  • How do we find our community?

  • What are customs and traditions?

Unit 3. History

  • Why is remembering things that happened in the past important?

  • Can we learn lessons from the past?

  • Why do things change?

  • How can we honor people who lived in the past? 

  • What are national holidays?
  • What might happen if we forgot about our past?

  • How do stories help us understand our past?

Unit 4. Economics  

Suggested Instructional Time:

  • How do we use different things to help us live and work every day?

  • How can people meet their needs?
